This story began in 2003 when Anne & Ken bought the building that is now Toravaig House Hotel. It was very run down and needed complete renovation, but as soon as they saw it they knew there was potential to turn it into a really special, small hotel.
With both their backgrounds steeped in Scottish tourism it was a totally natural move. Ken was born and brought up in Oban and for many years was the Captain of The Hebridean Princess, perhaps the smallest luxury cruise ship in the world. Anne has been involved with tourism for many years. A native Gaelic speaker from Skye she ran a very successful bed and breakfast and self-catering business in Skinidin, near Dunvegan on Skye for over twenty years, followed by five years grading and recruiting self catering cottages in Scotland with Scottish Country Cottages. She also served on the board of Highlands of Scotland Tourism and Skye Local Enterprise Company for eight years.
Following a foundation-to-roof redesign by Anne and Ken, Toravaig House Hotel was born and opened to the public in 2004. They have not looked back since! Today the hotel is an award winning, romantic, boutique hotel which welcomes guests from around the world. Combined with the unique opportunity to sail with Anne and Ken on their exclusive yacht, guests can experience a true “Island” break. Contemporary chic mixes with luxury touches and there is wonderful attention to detail wherever you look.
Anne & Ken feel they’ve performed a ‘wee miracle’ at Toravaig House. The house and magnificent landscaped gardens afford spectacular views over to Knoydart. Open all year there are special romantic packages for every season. Toravaig has been described by many as “a hidden gem with a big reputation for fine food” and Anne and Ken agree that it is a perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of modern day living.
With bedrooms furnished to an extremely high standard and complete with all modern amenities including Sky satellite TV as well as wireless broadband. The kitchen brigade, demonstrate great dedication – creating innovative, contemporary food to award winning standards. Both the dining room and lounge (with proper open fire) create an atmosphere of well being – inviting you to simply relax without noticing it - and enjoy the company, good food and a great night’s sleep.
